The Pyramids of Giza
LIMITED EDITION

Edition of 445 specimens

Witnesses to a long forgotten culture
With the “Pyramids of Giza” fountain pen, Pelikan pays tribute to a historic masterwork which remains unique in its dimensions. Between 2950 and 2470 B.C. monuments were created, in the form of the tombs of the Egyptian pharaohs Cheops, Chepren and Mycerinus, which have survived throughout the eons to the present day.

These burial places of the pharaohs and kings are the source of inspiration for a work of art which will delight lovers of writing as much as fans of Ancient Egypt with its masterly working of quality materials. And it's the numerous painstaking details which make these Pelikan fountain pens exceptional – the shape of the cap head pays tribute to the crown of the Pharaoh Cheops. The special execution of the Pelikan logo in high relief also demonstrates that a fascinating gem among fountain pens has been created.

Through the edition number, which is engraved on the fountain pen, each example is labelled as being unmistakably unique. The worldwide edition is 445 pieces – a homage to the Greek historian Heredot, who collected information regarding the pyramids in the year 445 B.C.

The Colossus of Rhodes
LIMITED EDITION

Edition of 408 specimens

Pelikan's “Colossus of Rhodes” fountain pen honors a technical and artistic masterpiece that is unique in terms of size and grandeur. The bronze statue of the Greek God Helios, the worshiped sun God and patron saint of the Aegean island of Rhodes, was worked with exceptional architectonic and artistic skill.

Only specially selected materials were used, such as marble for the pedestal, iron for the inner frame and bronze, partially refined with gold, for the outer skin. The Pelikan fountain pen, which, like its historical paragon, is partly made from bronze, combines traditional craftsmanship with the highest degree of design and technical expertise. The valuable writing instrument is presented in an artistically designed case that has a feeling for the stylized harbor of Rhodes where the statue is said to have once stood.

The edition number engraved on the filler knob end transforms each product into an unmistakably unique item. This worldwide limited edition figure is thus a reminder of the founding of the town of Rhodes that took place in 408 B.C. when the three-town states of the island united: Lalysos in the north, Lindos in the east and Kamiros in the west – all three having once been ruled by the so-named grandchildren of Helios, the sun God. They founded the island's capital on the northern tip and called it Rhodes, thus also giving this sun-drenched and fertile island its name.

Pelikan's new Limited Edition, “The Lighthouse of Alexandria”, is a further highlight in the “Seven Wonders of the World” series of fine writing instruments. This time, tribute is paid to the highest of the seven wonders – the Pharos of Alexandria. This majestic ancient lighthouse stood on the island of Pharos close to the coast of Egypt for more than a thousand years; built in 300 B.C., it was the first beacon fire in history.

The exclusive fountain pen from Pelikan recalls this technical and artistic marvel with an equivalent degree of precision and craftsmanship. The Hanging Gardens of Babylon
LIMITED EDITION

Edition of 410 specimens

A tribute to aesthetic appeal and technical skill
King Nebuchadnezzar II had the gardens constructed some 600 years before our calendar for his wife Amytis, so, she could find a part of her green home of Persia amidst the desert-like region of Babylon.

Ancient writings tell us of an impressive new structure which was created and consisted of stepped terraces where exotic trees, shrubs, flowers, and herbs grew. The immense garden itself required a sophisticated system to irrigate them with water from the Euphrates. The Hanging Gardens combined an aesthetic natural beauty and new sophisticated technology making this a true masterpiece.

Inspired by this, the Pelikan fountain pen combines the utmost precision in manufacturing with traditional craftsmanship and artistic as well as technical skill. This distinctive writing instrument pays tribute and reflects this architectural wonder by incorporating a representation of the front of two steps of the ancient terraced structure. The backdrop reflected on the pen shows how the terraces were supported by columns and arched vaults. The representation of the stepped garden is once again depicted on the cap of this uniquely crafted fountain pen.

Each pen detail has been meticulously designed and crafted with to reflect and pay tribute to this magnificent achievement. The new Hanging Gardens writing instruments are intricate in detail, with a gold-plated cap which artistically depicts four stepped terraces. The dark green barrel is refined with lacquer and polished to a high gloss. Edged by gold-plated rings, it flows into the superbly crafted front part of the fountain pen.

The hand-crafted 18-carat gold nib is decorated with an individually embossed stylized rendering of the terraces. The Hanging Gardens series of writing instruments offer a new elegance, uniting functionality, durability, and beauty. The Limited Edition has its own dedicated serial number engraved into the filling handle, identifying each fountain pen as a unique masterpiece.

The Statue of Zeus
LIMITED EDITION

Edition of 300 specimens

Statue of the most powerful
Just 20 years after the Temple of Zeus was finished in Olympia, the monument “The Statue of Zeus” was erected inside it. The Greek sculptor Phidias created the 13-meterhigh colossal statue between 438 and 430 BC. It was his last work and secured him high esteem as one of the most significant sculptors of ancient times. The statue of the most powerful Olympic god of Greek mythology, which is some seven times larger than human size, went on to impress visitors for centuries. According to legend, the Zeus statue was transported to Constantinople – today Istanbul – where it fell victim to a fire in the year 475. The work of art survived for around 905 years. Its remains of its base can still be seen in Olympia today.

Gleaming elegance
The sublime effect of the world wonder was not only attributable to its size, but also to the many fine materials used in it. The skin of the enthroned statue of the god was made from pure ivory. The ankle-length robe, the soles of the sandals and the tresses of hair were shaped out of gold in perfect craftsmanship, and colored glass and precious stones adorned the monument. The whole composition of valuable materials gave Phidias’ Zeus statue a magnificent gleam. To express the esteem for this world wonder, the piston fountain pen “The Statue of Zeus” is also made from high-quality materials with elaborate finishing techniques.

Artistic skill rich in tradition
Pelikan has used valuable 18-carat rose gold for the embellishments. Using painstaking artistic processing, the motif of Zeus has been worked into the barrel in 925 Sterling silver, and finally all decorative elements plated with 18-carat gold in an electroplating bath. To finish, the motif and decorative elements had a clear varnish applied in order for the background to be colored with anthracite tones.

Honoring unique architecture
To create a gentle transition to the rose gold and emulate the ivory of the statue, Pelikan uses precious resin in a creamy white color for the grip section, filling handle section and lid. The decorative elements such as the trademark Pelikan beak clip and the decorative rings, as well as the pièce de résistance – the 18-carat nib – are all plated with rose gold. Thanks to their first-class craftsmanship and exclusive look and feel, they pay an exceptional tribute to this world wonder.
