Raden is a traditional Japanese decorative craft, mainly used for lacquerware and woodwork. Pelikan applies this wonderful craft to the technical base of its famous Souverän M1000.
The Souverän M1000 Raden White Ray combines the wonderful Japanese decorative craftsmanship with fountain pen models of our famous Souverän series, which makes these writing instruments a symbiosis of two cultures.
The first step to create the M1000 Raden White Ray fountain pen is to use the special Japanese Urushi lacquer to give the surface of the pen a deep black impression. Then the traditional stripes are made with particles from white mother-of-pearl material, that are shimmering color changing in the sunlight. In the next step, the stripes are fixed to the cap and barrel by coating of lacquer.
Finally, the master artist individually signs and numbers each fountain pen with Maki-e technique.
Raden is a traditional Japanese decorative craft. Working with small pieces of precious shell material, the master artist creates a unique and distinctive striped fountain pen, which is an impressive piece of art. Each individually produced piece is crafted by hand and truly unique.
Each fountain pen is individually signed and numbered by the artist using the Maki-e technique, which used to be reserved exclusively for Japanese Royals as an indication of their power.
Each fountain pen is encased in a traditional Japanese gift box made of Paulownia wood.
